French Chateau Cooking Vacation Details
Highlights of our Cooking in a French Chateau and Bordeaux Wine Tours feature accommodations at a stunning chateau near the village of Sainte-Radegonde, cooking classes with the chateau’s chef, winery visits and prestigious Bordeaux wine tastings, all meals (wine included) – and much more!
Itinerary
Day One
- Arrival in Bordeaux airport or Vèline train station and private transfer to the chateau. (Cost of transfer paid locally based on your arrival location.)
- Around 7 pm enjoy an introductory meet-up to discuss the week’s itinerary with your hosts.
- Dinner this evening at the chateau – a lovely 4-course meal with local wine parirings.
- Overnight.
Day Two
- Breakfast at the chateau. This morning, enjoy a 2-hour hands-on cooking class featuring the best French culinary traditions. Lunch will follow based on your efforts, paired with local wines.
- Time to rest after lunch, then around 4:00 pm enjoy a tasting at the Chateau Fayolle. You will have a “barrel tasting” – sampling wines directly from the barrel – and will learn about the nuances of the local wines in their early stages.
- Next, head to dinner at the Auberge Saint-Jean, where you will indulge in an authentic French meal at this charming in on the Dordogne river.
- Return to the chateau, overnight.
Day Three
- Breakfast at the chateau.
- Around 9:15 am, depart for Saint-Émilion. Explore the historic wine region, known for its prestigious vineyards. Enjoy wine tastings and a scenic lunch among the vineyards at the oldest chateau in Saint-Émilion, the Chateau Coutet. You will even try your hand at blending wines to create your own unique vintage!
- This afternoon, head back at the chateau. Cooking class at the chateau, dinner to follow.
- Overnight.
Day Four
- Breakfast at the chateau.
- Depart around 9:15 am for the local market in Creon. Wander through the market and learn about – and sample! – the fresh produce, cheeses, and other delicacies.
- Next, head to the Abbaye de la Sauve-Majeure, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy a guided visit of the historic abbey and learn about medieval French history and culture.
- Lunch today will be rustic meal in a cozy café in Soussac.
- Next, visit another local winery for a tasting.
- Finish the day with a delightful dinner of regional cuisine paired with local wines at a restaurant near the Chateau du Sanse.
- Overnight.
Day Five
- Breakfast at the chateau.
- Depart for the Chateau la Rivière, where you will experience one of Bordeaux’ finest estates, including a guided tour of the vineyard and cellars. Finish with a tasting of their fine wines and lunch.
- This evening, have a cooking class at the Chateau du Sanse. Dinner to follow.
- Overnight.
Day Six
- Breakfast at the chateau.
- Around 9:30 am, depart for a cooking class in the town of Duras. You will participate in a special hands-on class featuring chocolate and the popular French macarons.
- Lunch in Duras.
- After lunch, depart for Saint-Émilion and enjoy a guided visit of the village and the underground cellars, as well as a panoramic tour by scene train around the vineyards.
- Farewell dinner at the Chateau.
- Overnight.
Day Seven
- Breakfast.
- Departure transfer to the Bordeaux airport or Vèline train station. (Cost of transfer paid locally.)
