VIRGINIA
Trip taken April 2024
The trip went perfectly from start to finish. It exceeded all my expectations. Every driver was on time, friendly, and knowledgeable. Every car was beautiful, clean, and there was usually a bottle of water at our seat. Every guide was so well-versed, courteous, and entertaining. Every connection was smooth and as expected. ... The Hotel Mediterraneo was first class!!  We loved it and didn't want to leave.  The staff was friendly and welcoming. They greeted us each time we arrived downstairs or returned from an excursion... We loved Sorrento and the day with our guide, Julia, was fun!  She was born in Sorrento and lives there and knew so many people we crossed paths with. She was so knowledgeable and showed us things we never would have discovered... My favorite of all had to be Capri. Our guide was handsome Giussepe and our skipper was the lovely, Tony (new grandfather of twins!) The tour to the island and then completely around the island, viewing the grottos, was fun!  How special it was when Giussepe went below and brought up a bottle of champagne to toast our arrival... If I can have a second favorite - or maybe it's first - was Pompeii. OMG! What a discovery and what a people to have lived as they did 2000 years ago! Our guide was excellent! As we watched other people walk around just looking here and there, we realized how lucky we were to have such a well-tailored tour. Otherwise, you can't possibly really understand what you're actually seeing.... OK, it's a three-way tie -- The Amalfi Coast. Our driver, Giovanni, was terrific. He was an excellent driver on those crazy, curvy roads. (Something a nervous-nelly like me appreciated.) We enjoyed Positano and Amalfi, but I must say our time at il Ritrovo was the highlight. We received a lovely welcome and our cooking chef, Marie Lou, was just the perfect Italian Nonna! She was skilled and entertaining! ... On to Naples with our view of the Castel dell'Ovo from our room! Now how can you top that? The five-hour (20,000 steps!) tour conducted by Nunzia was great!!  It was a little rainy but no one cared! We started the day with an espresso at the most stunning coffee bar. We had more pizza at a sidewalk restaurant and were lucky to have an accordian serenade. And, of course, all the amazing sites of Naples... I don't know what I may have missed to tell you about, but I can assure you it was fantastic. All of it was. Even the flights cooperated... Peg, I can't thank you enough for making this first trip with TIK so extraordinary!  Hopefully, we'll be talking later in the year about my next adventure.

  • Capri has been inhabited since prehistoric times, was then a Greek colony, and also an Emperor’s resort at the beginning of the ancient Roman Empire. Capri was home to residences of the Emperors Augustus and Tiberius, including Tiberius’s excavated Villa Iovis. During the 10th century, the citizens of Capri transferred their settlements from the seaside to the safer locations they still inhabit high above the shore. Capri eventually became part of the Abbey of Montecassino and then of the Kingdom of Naples, and you can see its history through the ages in its ruins and monuments. (If the Capri excursion is unavailable due to had weather, an alternate excursion will be proposed. Please note also that if you opt for the B&B accommodations, this will be a shared small-group boat excursion.)
